what a difference a bridge makes

$

I have a Ramsey Bacon that always had bad overtones. I played with a sock in the pot which got rid of the overtones but made it a little quiet. I recently got a moon bridge for an OME bright angel and put the snuffy smith from the OME onto the Bacon. Holy crap! It is like a completely different banjo! Overtones are gone (along with the sock). It is significantly better. I knew bridges could make a difference (reason for the Moon and the change to snuffy smith) but didn't realize it was this big of a difference. I guess I will go about changing the rest of the banjos away from generics.

New bridge from Virgil Lawson

As some of you know Virgil fabricated a bridge and offered it here in a giveaway a couple weeks ago. I was the lucky winner/recipient.

I had a chance to put it on today, and the difference it makes is hard to believe - I didn't know the change would be so drastic. It's a fantastic upgrade.

I would like to publicly thank Virgil (vlawson) for the generosity of doing a giveaway on a beautiful bridge - its really something.

Thank You!

Knockin on Heavens Door.

A so called mate was playing Heavens Door, and singing the verses, now, what I want to know is, how many verses should there be. When I sing it, I sing three, he sang two, he likes to criticise me at every chance he gets so when I got my own back by saying he had missed a verse he couldn't wait to scoot home at 11 at night to E mail me to try and prove me wrong and that I should apologise to him, but I looked on Y tube and there is" Dylan" singing three verses, I know it's a petty thing but he's such an ars**** , it isn't just the once, he picks all the time, and it spoils the night, so, does Dylan sing three? I know I've seen him on Y tube, but knowing my luck it will be a good cover version. If I'm wrong and he's right so be it, it's no big deal, except to him that is.

If anyone is looking for a preware tb1, there is one on consignment in South Austin Music which looks to be in good shape and is priced at $799. I didn't take off the resonator but it is diamond flange,  shoe bracket, looks just like at 1926 I recently bought.

Security cameras.

How many of you fine folks use home security cameras? I have a couple of cheap Nortech  wireless 2.4 Mhz  (interference-prone)cameras in front of our house and hooked to a TV/VCR for monitoring/recording.I'm considering upgrading in the future and would be interested in any recommendations about what you have and like. I'd like a four-wireless camera system displayed on a monitor with DVR or SD card recording. I looked at the Lorex SD9 (LW2932) at Best Buy yesterday and it looks interesting and a decent price $330 ( two camera with expansion capability to four.)  But I later read some bad reviews about an earlier Lorex model at amazon.com. Thanks for any advice.

I have seen people use thimbles on their fingers when playing the washboard.  I plan on getting one soon, can I use metal banjo picks to play it?

Good business ?

I recently ordered some finger picks, thumb picks and flat picks from a different  online store because the shipping was cheaper.

Six days after I received notice that they had been shipped,I sent an email to ask approximately when should I expect them due to having a few mail problems.I even told him about buying a bridge and all I received was a ripped open envelope.

His reply to me was....''You should concentrate on the good deals and same day shipping I have instead of  when you will receive your merchandise''.   Still no picks!!!   Due to his attitude,I don't think I will order from him again.

Just watched Young Guns (1988) cowboy movie again and saw a clawhammer player at 1hr:09min in the saloon. I told my son the player was actually doing it right as they usually will just hold the instrument and move the hands. Does anyone know who the player is?-Thanks

how long have you had your current email address?

I was listening to some call-in talk show on NPR recently and a caller was boasting that he'd had his current email address since 1997. The host and his guests were all ooing and ahhing - and it got me thinking.....as near as I can figure, I've had the same email address since 1995.

I remember those outrageous bills I used to get from AOL when they gave you 5 hours a month free then charged for every hour you went over.  My first bill was more than $80!  I also remember trying both Prodigy and Compuserve and settling for AOL.

I haven't used AOL software for many years now - but I still use AOL mail, accessing it on their website - and I still have the same email address @aol.com.
