I think it would be great to be able to click a back arrow on "Featured" part of the classifieds. There have been many times that I see something that catches my eye and then is gone in a flash. Then I have to wait for it to cycle through all of the ads.

coast to coast trip // any banjo stops?
Hey there folks,
Just graduated from college and during the month of july I plan on going cross country (probably staying along the northern states).
Is there any interesting banjo related stops I should make, museums/builders/shows
Or just awesome places to stop, and play (although i'm sure i'll find many of those).
I'm also considering attempting to build another mountain banjo while on the road so probably make some stops around the Appalachian mountains.
linked is a super loose route but will surely change once enroute
What is this chord please?
x2121 moveable shape.
I came across it earlier, it definitely sounds minor to me.

Need help identifying a fish
My buddy and I went fishing to New River, Virginia. He caught a fish that seem to be a type of carp or sucker. It had spikes coming out of its head and the bottom part of the fish was very pink. Its head was taller than most suckers, similar to the shape of a drum fish. Anyone know what it is?
The Maid behind the Bar

I Think My Wife Gave Me A Compliment (indirectly)
This past weekend, I was at a small jam. I started out, playing my banjo but, when another banjo picker arrived, I pulled out my guitar as, generally, I feel, in a small jam, one banjo is enough. As the jam began to grow and more guitar pickers arrived, I decided to get my banjo back out to even things up a bit. We were in a restaurant and my wife was seated at one of the tables with the other banjo player's wife but she couldn't see me. During one of the songs we played, my wife told the other banjo players wife "your husband is a really good banjo player". The other lady, who could see me told my wife "that's your husband who is playing right now".
Makes me think I've finally arrived. Usually, when I ask my wife about something I've played, she usually shrugs her shoulders & says "sounds like a banjo".
the kid does not appreciate the banjo...
so, I'm on paternity leave for awhile. Getting a decent amount of telecommuting work done, because at the moment she's young enough and sleeps so well, I can park the basinette next to the desk. However, in order to keep her in sight, I can't play the banjo. The old archtop is just too bloody loud. I've shoved towels in there, closepinned the bridge, but either she hates my playing or the vibrations just set her off.
On the other hand, she likes my didgeridoo.
I'm worried about her musical tastes. Does anybody have an accordian I can borrow for awhile?
Lap steel.
How many have who have a lap steel, or Dobro tuned to E13 tuning? I know a guy who does and it sounds great.
Nechville. In Higginsville.

Cookie Tin Banjos!
Hi, I've been learning how to construct old timey cookie tin banjos for a while now, and thought I would try my hand at making some varieties. I use Stewmac's fret calculator and angle my necks to get appropriate action. I have been pleased with my products, and would like to try to sell some of them. If you like how they sound, please check out my online store!
You can hear a demo of the 5-string here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=46xIdSar8qk
And, I can't play the Irish Tenor Banjo, but you can hear a few chords on that here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sfoR41A9pZo
I am making many more of these, and will add them to my online shop soon. Right now, the above two are for sale here: http://www.etsy.com/shop/BurqueTinBanjos

Max Head tension using a drum dial
So.... I got a Drum Dial and now can set my head tension very evenly and like the results. My question now is what is the correlation between the number on the Drum Dial and the head tuning? And also, how tight can the head be to be safe and not rip? I'm hoping that somebody has some of this correlation information. Thanks.
Oh, the head is a Remo.
Boatman - Clawhammer Banjo Challenge
For your review, my submission for the "August Banjo Challenge" on BanjoHanout.org.
Boatman played on a Ashborne style banjo made by Wayne Sagmoen. 12 inch skin head with nylon strings.
Thanks to my friend Eli for doing the video work.

help me choose a step-up banjo
Hello,
Middle aged man here learning new tricks. I have been practicing finger picking style for nine months and I am loving it. But I have been using my son's Washburn B-9 and he is coming home in two weeks and he will want it back. So I am shopping. I am looking at the Deering Goodtime Special (available at $600), the Baldwin ODE, and the Deering Sierra. Of course I would rather get away with paying only $600 but can be talked into putting up more money. I will be playing mostly for myself, sitting on the deck by the lake. But I can see jamming with friends (never for an audience.) I care about playability, tone, and sustain (I play slowly!). I don't care at all about bling. The Goodtime is plenty good looking for me. So, my question is ... what is the value added of the more expensive banjos? Or am I going to be just fine noodling with the Goodtime?
Your suggestions are valued.

Evie Ladin House Concert in Louisville, KY, July 7
Evie Ladin and husband Keith Terry will be performing in a house concert in Louisville on Sunday, July 7, at 7:00 pm EDT. Evie gave a great solo concert and workshop on harmony singing a couple of years ago here in Louisville, and this will be another great night of music. I am trying to arrange a workshop of some type, whether clawhammer banjo, stringband arrangements, singing, etc. If anyone in the Kentuckiana area is interested in learning more about a workshop with Evie, get i touch with me through the Hangout or post a message here.
David
Here are some details about Evie and Keith as well as about the house concert. (The EMAIL link below does not work. Contact me for concert details or to make reservations. I will pass along the information.):

Bishline or Kel Kroydon?
For those of you that have played both or have a good knowledge of both banjos, which one would you recommend? the Bishline (Cimarron) is what I am looking at or one of the Kel Kroydon models in the same price range 2200-2400, any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

manual typewriters
Who learned to type on a manual typewriter? Who still uses them?
I learned on an electric typewriter, but I have a manual I use from time to time. We sent it to a place where they cleaned it and got it working well. It's a pretty cool piece of equipment actually!
If the 5-string banjo would have never been born...
There's too much strength and life in the banjo - it would have come to pass eventually. But, if it hadn't been born yet as a 5-string banjo by now, where do you think you would be musically?
I'd probably have taken up guitar in some way.
stewmac neck blank
Has anyone used one of the bluegrass neck blanks sold by stewmac? I was considering it for my first banjo build and any personal experience would be appreciated.

How weird would this be??
I kind of like it, but might make the inlay artist "wince" a bit for various reasons. Trying to come up with something unique besides the typical flowers, etc.
Midnight Moonlight
This was recorded a couple months back at WPAQ radios live show, the Merry-Go-Round. I hope this isn't a repeat of posting. Had some free time before crashing and loaded the live track into my Adobe Audition software to do some EQing, edits, clean up things and try to make it better, sonically. This has always been one of my favorite Rowan tunes.
