I was just wondering since I've heard that a lot of resonators were made of poplar with a thin layer of laminated maple or mahogany on them which made the biggest significance difference in the tone of the banjo. The neck or the resonator? I would think that the resonator would. Since it's located where most of the sound comes from. But if the resonator was made of poplar than there should be little difference in the tone if you changed the resonator from mahogany to maple if they were both poplar with a different laminated back. So then does the neck make the biggest difference in tone?
