I am getting into recording some songs, mostly featuring my guitars, but would like to have some low-profile banjo in the background. These would be folk and bluegrass, but again the banjo would be recorded as mostly a background instrument.
For my purposes, I would play each instrument individually as a separate recording then mix them. As such, I want a pleasant tone, perhaps more "woody" than a standard Mastertone would sound. I am thinking perhaps a banjo with no tonering. But, I'm just not sure.
What would you guys recommend? I have a line on a couple of Chinese imports for under $300, one is an Alvarez Idaho Belle and the other is a little more and is a Hohner Jap made banjo. But, I'm wondering if a Goodtime 2 or RK 20 would be a better option. Since it would be recorded into a mic, I don't see loudness as being a requirement.
Ideas?
