BARREL BLUING

Anyone ever tried bluing banjo parts? I'm pretty sure it would work on steel hooks, but what would happen to brass, zinc, bronze. Would it adhere to plated parts, or would you have do strip them 1st? I remember way back in metal shop we used to heat treat cold rolled steel by making it super hot in the forge, then dipping it in the oil barrel. It gave the metal a beautiful multi-hued bluish tint and I supposed it hardened it too. Never tested my long-handled hot dog fork for hardness, but it was hard enough to stick each other in the back pants pocket when they weren't looking.Always good for a few laughs unless you were the recipient. Anyway....just wondered if THAT would work on brass, bronze, zinc, white metal, etc.???  I've never used bluing, but have used browning on my old CVA big bore 54 cal. round-ball shooter barrel. For that I only had to heat barrel in oven with open door for an hour or two(before the barrel bent)..so extreme heat is not needed for this operation. Was just wondering about adhesion properties? I'm thinkin' about building a gunjo? Walnut with possible blued components?????? Maybe I'm out in left field? Right field? Maybe just sittin' too close to the glue drying rack??????? Whatcha' all think?
