Hi, I am sure there must be a thread on this somewhere, but I couldn't find it (please direct me if you know where it is!).
Someone just gave me an old banjo, an Iida 226 from the 70s (Japan-made). It seems decent enough; tunes up and holds the tune pretty well, so it seems okay to try to learn on. I dabble on ukulele and guitar, but I'm really a beginner all around; I'm starting with claw hammer technique. I read music and tabs, and I have picks and a capo (although not a fifth-string capo).
What are the best websites for tutorials? I need simple songs to learn in each tuning, ideally ones that are a little bit interesting musically. In open G, I am picking out "Didn't Leave Nobody But The Baby" and "I'll Fly Away," so I guess those are some examples of how my taste runs. My son (6) is studying fiddle so maybe easy fiddle tunes that he can play, too, so we can play together?
I'll be lurking and learning:)
