I have a 1978 RB-250 that I played extensively in the early 80's and while I liked it, was never super-pleased with the sound. I started playing another banjo in 1988 and my Gibson sat in it's case for about 22 years without being played. Recently, I put a new head on it, got a new tail piece and bridge, put on new strings (same gauge) and shined it up nicely...and now it sounds great. Does the aging of the instrument (even if it wasn't played) contribute to the improved sound?
