Let's be honest. Banjos are silly. In a civilised world they would never have been invented.
They're limited to certain musical styles unlike guitars and pianos. They have 4.5 strings. They are tricky to keep in tune. They are associated with gap-toothed hillbillys and hayseed barn dancers. The general public does not take banjos seriously.
I do.
I love to stretch my limited abilities to play bluegrass, classical, melodic, blues, jazz, ragtime etc, etc. And it all sounds good. To me.
The thing calls to me and says, "Play me now and I'll reward you". And it does. It's fun. It's complex. It's achievable. And it makes people smile and laugh.
Surely that's a good thing, even in Australia where we have no social/cultural history of banjo playing.
