Just got my internet service back, so now I can tell you how I lost it. Last night I was coming home from work. The wind was blowing; hard. I was about a block from my house where there is a four way stop sign. I was stopped at the intersection when the sky (and everything else) turns into a giant flash of light. Then there was an explosion that vibrated my truck. Then I was engulfed in a shower of sparks. And about halfway through my "HOLY SH . . .", it all happened again. And then the whole neighborhood was pitch dark.I pulled away from the intersection and parked my truck. I got out and looked back and saw what caused all the commotion. A big tree top (either a Douglas Fir or a Western Hemlock; I couldn't tell exactly in the dark) had snapped off and got twisted up in the cross members of the power pole I was sitting next to. It was dangling and on fire just over the cab of where I was sitting in my truck! I called 911 and the Fire Dept. was on their way. This station is only about a half mile from my house. They came and got the fire out, and the power company showed up about an hour later. We were only without electricity for about 2 hours, but internet service took till now. Those power lines saved me big time, but it sure has made me think about how fast things can change. Glad to be able to tell you this story.
