Hi old timers,
I've been getting a bit more serious about learning some old fiddle tunes. I've discovered that I'm a lot more likely to practice if I'm trying to learn a specific song. And I've found that I've had pretty good luck just listening to clips and watching videos to get a general sense of where the notes are and then figuring it out by ear (that's one of the few skills I've learned from playing for 20 years...I have very little talent, but I have a pretty decent intuitive feel for the fretboard).
Anyway, that's neither here nor there. I was hoping that people could give me your top 5 or 10 favorite tunes so I can have some specific tunes to focus on. Other than Soldier's Joy and Angeline the Baker and Cripple Creek...I more or less know those.
