Hi folks! I just wanted to let those of you in the NW know that I'll be presenting two bluegrass banjo workshops designed for all levels of students (but ideal for intermediate level players) at Dusty Strings in Seattle, Saturday, January 28th. Here's all you need to know:
Bluegrass Banjo: Earl Scruggs Essentials, 10:15 a.m. - 12:15 p.m., $40
In this “hands-on & let’s play” workshop for all levels, Bill Evans teaches a systematic approach to understanding Scruggs-style banjo. After a quick review of hand technique and roll patterns, Bill will move on to Earl’s favorite licks used in leads and backup, including Earl’s advanced boogie-woogie “Foggy Mt. Special” style playing. The class will analyze some of Earl's best-known solos, enabling you to play them just like the master! Tab examples are provided, recording encouraged.
Bluegrass Banjo: Jam Survival Skills, 1:15 p.m. - 3:15 p.m., $40
Join "Banjo for Dummies" author and renowned teacher and player Bill Evans in a "hands on and let's play" session designed for all ability levels with practical tips and techniques that you can use in your next jam. Topics include the role of the banjo in a jam, using your ear to hear chord changes and following the guitar, vamping, roll patterns and up-the-neck backup, using fill-in licks, negotiating kick-offs and endings, and using the capo to play in all keys. Tab examples provided, recording encouraged.
** Attend both workshops for the discounted price of $70 A great deal for four hours of instruction! **
Dusty Strings is located at 3406 Fremont Avenue South in Seattle. For more info, link to here.
I'll also be performing on Saturday night, January 28 at the Phinney Neighborhood Center for the Seattle Folklore Society at 7:30 p.m. Hope to see some of you for both the concert and workshops.
All the best,
Bill Evans
