When you want to learn a tune from a YouTube video, but they are playing too fast. This has come up on other sites and here is what I worked out. I use a MacBook Pro with the Intel Inside. My browser of choice is Firefox, current version 9.0.1. Go here and install the Video Download Helper add-on for Firefox; https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/fir...ownloadhelper/.
Browse YouTube and select the video you want to download, you should see the Download Helper Icon next to the video title;
I like to download the whole video it seems to work better than trying to convert on the fly. Hopefully you have Audacity installed with the FFmpeg import/export library and the LAME mp3 encoder.
Load the video which should be in mp4 format into Audacity. In the menu bar choose Effect -> Change Tempo. You can alter the tempo without changing the pitch. Once it is at the speed you want in the menu bar choose File -> Export. You can then choose among the file format options. I like mp3.
Have fun learning to play by ear.
