Modern day conveniences

I'm just warmed up a cup of this mornings coffee in the microwave and I got to thinking about these modern day conveniences.  I can remember back in the early 70's when the only microwaves were in automats and hospital cafeterias.  They had a sign wanring anybody with a pace maker about the microwave radiation.  Now everybody has them.

I'm watching TV via a mini dish satelite reciever beamed down from the satelite.  About the time I graduated from high school in 1977 the earth station satelite recievers were big in Missouri.  Farmers who lived out in the sticks would put up these huge 12 and 14 foot dishes to pull in the signal.  It was really a revolution though for these people who had lived with three snowy channels brought in by an antenna on a tower for years.

My first computer was a Texas Intruments TI99-4A.  I had Commodore VIC20's and VIC 64's. I had a C-128D that had a disc drive.  That was back in the 80's.  Now this computer had 6 cores, 2.81 Ghz with 8 Gig RAM.

It's really amazing at how far we've come and how fast things are moving with new 4G and 5G cell phones, costant connectivity, and access to so much information.

I'm looking for a new washing machine.  It's mind boggling at what all's out there.  Front loaders, HE units with no agitator.  Jeez, we just want to wash our clothes.  Can I still a get a washing maching with an agitator.  I mean I don't want for my wife to have to go down to the creek and beat the clothes against a rock.  My mom actually used a wash tub and wash board, then an old washing maching with a ringer when whe was a girl.  I remember my grandma had that ringer washer up until I was about 10 years old.

My coffe got cold again.  Gotta go nuke it some more.
