I have neve in my life owned a decent stereo. Such money as I had always went for instruments and related gear. Now that our house is pretty much done, my wife and I would like to get a stereo system. Her main requirement is that it be easy to operate. We have one of those compact deals by Kenwood in our apartment that's good for her that way, at least with CDs. It's decent as those things go, but the amplifier is cheap, the speakers suck.
I haven't really looked at stereo gear since the mid 80s. I'm sure much has changed. I'm open as to whether to go with separate components or all in one units. Probably looking at middle of the road price range. I'm interested in suggestions as to what characteristics and features to look for, rather than specific brands and models, because the brands and models sold here are probably not the same, though selection is improving here.
So what do you think?
