Yeah, and banjos are invited.
Some here might already know, Old Town School of Folk Music in Chicago has just expanded their facilities into a brand new building (16.5 million $) across the street from their (still in use) Lincoln Avenue building and that means there's a party going on big time. Fiddle Club of the World (Chicago chapter) is a brain child of Paul Tyler (OTSFM teacher, member of the Volo Bogtrotters, http://drdosido.net/ )
Here's an excerpt from an email he recently sent out
"The year gets rolling January 15 with a house warming dance for the new Old Town School East (4545 Lincoln). We'll warm up the front dance studio on the top floor (Room E328) at 6:30 with an old-time community dance. Open band. I'm inviting all Old Town School fiddle teachers to come a play a few tunes along with their best students. All callers are welcome. Dancers too."
"Open band" means the band will be made up of the musicians who show up. This is a very important feature. Folks in Chicago have been known to complain if they can't take an active part at a dance besides dancing.
Do I need to add, banjos are more than welcome? No. Its a dance. Its understood banjos are more than welcome.
