I just finished reading "Music from the True Vine", the new Mike Seeger biography by Bill Malone. I really enjoyed it and would recommend to anyone who is interested in Mike, the Seeger family, The New Lost City Ramblers, or traditional/OT music in general.
One little piece of NLCR history I picked up from the book... After Tom Paley left the Ramblers in 1962, Mike and John Cohen tried to hire Doc Watson as Paley's replacement, but due to family responsibilities and the Ramblers intensive schedule, he was unable to commit to the band. Ultimately they were joined by Tracy Schwarz in late 1962.
It's hard to imagine how amazing the NLCR would have been with Doc, while at the same time wondering what they would have been like without Tracy... !nteresting.
