banjo bridges weight and tone for heavy or light strings

I have been experimenting with thicker bridges and thin bridges.  What I seem to have found is that heavy gage strings like thinner bridges, and light gage strings like thicker bridges.  My results with this theory, gave me the best overall sound for heave and light gage strings.  Has anyone else found this too be true?  I would like to hear what others think.
