Hello
I have a custom built open back tubaphone which is very bright and loud. I'd like to make it sound less bright and loud and really a bit plunkier. Can anybody suggest some set up tips to achieve this? It currently has quite a heavy custom tailpiece (similar to a Kershner but shorter) and a Bart mystery wood bridge. The head is also quite tight. I'm wondering if a combination of slackening the head off and putting a no-knot tailpiece on would move the sound in the direction I want. Would a heavier bridge also help? Do string gauges make a difference?
Regards
Tony.
