I have been picking strings by myself for over six years and just now began to play along with another. I don't get music theory at all!!
Do both insterments have to play in the same key?
When I sing to a song I play, I find it easier to do so if I capo at the second fret. Why is it easier? I have to sing higher, so is it more within my vocal range? Am I singing in the same key as my banjo is in? Sounds similar to my ear, but I can't tell if it really is.......
What is a key anyway??? I'm told my banjo is in the key of G. I don't know what that is as my strings are tuned to G D G B D. Where in that mess of notes is there a key of G? If I capo at second fret, I'm now in key of A???
I'm playing with a guitar and this song Dualing Banjos by Janet Davis, the sheet music has the banjo in a different key than the guitar, right?
When I sing Barbershop, we four guys sing in FOUR different keys,,,,,,,,,,, right? I have sung Barber for years, but do not read music. I just "wing it". If they say to me "Sing this spot in the song higher", I do that and it works out. I do it by ear, you understand, not ever understanding music theory at all!!
By the way,,,what is a CHORD???????? Yea, I know it is how you position your left hand fingers, but "WHAT" is it?
Playing with another insterment sure is a load of work!!!!
