It recently dawned on me that it isn't only my lack of dexterity that I often miss or inadvertently bend strings when moving my fingers to the 8th fret Gmajor/Eminor position. I measured the string height and they are 3 mm (~ .12") above the top of the 9th fret. At the first fret the string height is only 1 mm (~ .04"). At the 12th fret the height is still 3mm but raises a tiny bit more at the 17th fret to about 3.2 mm.
My banjo is a rather cheap Rover RB-35 and only has one coordinator rod. What would I have to do to lower the string height? The 1 mm at the 1st fret seems to me rather low so I'm a bit afraid that lowering the string height up the neck will make the strings too low at the low frets.
Considering that Germany isn't precisely a banjo-country, I don't think that I would easily find a luthier or replacement parts such as bridges so I guess I will have to do this myself.
