What kind of life-expectancy should I expect from gut strings?
I recently put a hide head and a set of La Bella gut strings on my vintage Little Wonder (w/ self-made conversion neck) . I loved the sound, but on day two, my second string broke between the nut and the tuner. Since it broke between the two locations, I going to assume it was a string issue, not a rough or jagged edge issue. Do gut strings in general have a breakage an issue or could it be that the La Bellas are a low-end set?
Where can I get sets of gut strings that are likely to be of a better quality than the ones I’ve tried?
I play a frailing style and usually tune to Open G or Double C. I have other banjos with metal and nylon strings and would really like to use gut on this one.
Thanks, Jeff
