Yeah, I know it's a blatant violation of the Rules to start a debate, so it's not a debate. It is a question.
And unless you are an active member of the United Staes Navy, or have a link to the e-mail address of an active duty U.S. Navy chaplain, please do not post any comments about how good or how bad the ACLU is.
I just hate getting e-mails warning me that thus-and-such dreadful thing is happening, if it is not happening.
A recent e-mail informed me that
================================
ACLU has filed a suit to end prayer from the military completely. They're making great progress. The Navy Chaplains can no longer mention Jesus' name in prayer thanks to the ACLU and others.
=================================================
This is not the first time someone has sent me an unresearched claim about military chaplains being restricted.
The fact-check websites claim there is no such suit, the ACLU website doesn't mention that they are happy that they won, nor that they are unhappy that they only got the Navy, and no other branch.
I did send a general inquiry to the Navy, but I don't know if they bother responding to rumors.
And it boggles the mind that a sucessful suit would only affect ONE BRANCH of the military.
So, if you are IN the Navy, and if you have heard the name of Jesus mentioned in a prayer service, by a chaplian, let me know.
I'm not trying to find out if the ACLU is bad or good, nor am I trying to find out if Jesus is really the Messiah or not. I am trying to find out whether or not the people who forward statements which are not true, are guilty of bearing false witness.
Either the statement is true, and Navy people will verify that they have been to several recent Christian services and NOT heard the chaplain mention Jesus, or the statement is false, and Navy people will verify that they have heard the Chaplain mention Jesus.
The rest of you, if you must express an opinion right here on the BHO, please limit it to
"ACLU" and either or
(I posted the thumbs in the order in which they appear, left to right, in the box of emoticons.)
And if you feel that you must send me a private message, giving me your entire opinion on anything, there's my e-mail icon, up top of this box.
If you don't post it here, there's no debate, and neither of us is breaking any Rules.
