Jerusalem Ridge which tuning/position?

I am currently working on this excellent Bill Monroe and Kenny Baker fiddle tune, trying to decide which tuning and position to use. My first thought was to retune the second string in order to play it out of an open G minor position, capoed up to A minor, but have been advised that this can be a problem for memorizing different backup chords. Two other possibilities are to simply play it in the open gDGBD tuning without a capo using the A minor scale; or to capo up two frets and play out of G minor....which is what I'm leaning to. My goal is to follow Kenny's melody as closely as possible for breaks, with some Scruggsy roll-based backup.

How do YOU do it?
