I was surprised to be asked to "back off a bit" at the jam at SMBA Thursday night. We were sitting in the cafeteria around 11pm with three or four Masterclones and me & my Bacon Internal Resonator clawhammer banjo. They were playing BG and I was hammering away along with them.
The guy sitting to my right plucked at my shirtsleeve and said something to the effect of, "excuse me, but your banjo is so loud I can't hear anyone else!"
I suspect the problem was that I couldn't hear myself...so I compensated by hammering all the harder. Funny though...I basically don't have fingernails. All they were getting was meat on a string...and it was pinning their ears back.
I toned it down and we had a great time. Fun to CH with the BG dogs. I took a break on FMB and Wabash Cannonball...never played FMB in CH (but have played it a million times three-finger) and have never played Wabash Cannonball ever. It was messy...but lots of fun!
I was not happy to miss most of SMBA, I could only stay for my "History of the Banjo" lecture Friday morning and then had to head back home. I'm sure they're jammin' away right now...
