I was 11 years old and my best friend's dad had given him a nice Alvarez with a dove on the pick guard and was teaching him (us) to play. My next door neigbor had this guitar for sale and I begged for it. Mom said, "That's all you need....more junk." I pleaded. Our friend Gaylon was there and he said he would buy it for me if I promised to play him a song. He paid 20 dollars for it and a week later I played him Puff the Magic Dragon.
I just dug this out and put a new set of stings on it for the first time in years and years.
An old Harmony Hollywood F-holer. Sunburst finish with a single pick-up and volume and tone control.
It has a picture of Oscar on the head stock. Steel reinforced neck made in America. That's not the original keys. The originals were ivory colored and matched the volume control knobs.
The back of the body. This sunburst finish is really pretty. It's not like these acrylic finishes on the newer (low end) guitars.
I really like that sunburst finish. The bridge is supposed to have a couple of knurled dials that allow you to adjust it. I don't think I ever had those, maybe? There used to be an elevated pick gaurd that said Harmony Hollywood in script lettering. I lost that years ago.
Trapeze tail piece.
