Hi,
I recently acquired a used banjo and (from what the previous owner told me) it lived in its case for the entire 3 or 4 years he owned it. Its a nice Gold Tone BG 250-F and I'm the second owner. Structurally the thing is in excellent shape. The neck is straight and all parts seem free from any defect or wear except I noticed that the rim has two or three small cracks on the bottom side. They look very slight (almost like scratches) but if you run your finger over them they are definitely cracks. Its a 3 ply maple rim and it looks as though they might be where the pieces were pressed together. My question is should I be worried about these getting worse? Should I consider some sort of repair or just let it be? Also I live in a very dry climate (New Mexico... we're talking 20-30 relative humidity on a good day), should I take any other precautions besides a humidifier in the case? Thanks
Rob
