Here we hunt for game for food for the table. Times are tough, so the hunters, both gun and bow hunt for game.
It's just a way of life. I live in cowboy country. Because of some wild animals, the cowboys carry guns. It's a case of protecting the herds and their life too. Normal. Course here, we are not too envolved the the rush madness, and crime that cities have as a matter of course. No gangs, and the big crime is stealing a bike which is generally often found. Just a peaceful, quiet life and lived for the most part during bad long winters, and we tend to help our neighbors. Little in the way of sidewalks, so the baddest thing is riding bikes or skateboards on the sidewalk. Frowned upon greatly.
I don't pay much attention at all to the news. It's all bad, and I have no interest in crime and violence, and dislike politics. Only get the newspaper from the next town once a week for the tv guide or yard sales. Just doing what needs to be done here is plenty enough on the excitement. More un-needed. There's much in the paper about high school news and sports. No kid in that, so not much up on that either. Here the kids have jobs, are polite, and hold doors for ladies. The jobs? Mostly ranch things or help the folks at homes. Nice kids. No strange dress codes like cities have.
Now that's just how it is. Nothing much goes down here...it's peaceful, people wave, and everybody knows everybody. More than apt to help one on the road in any emergency. Actually, we all watch out after each other.
Now, I put this on another topic. I don't know beans about laws ...gun laws or what from another state. No interest. Just the way it is.
Out here, guns are a way of life. Most own guns. Rare to have problems with gun ownership, and even fewer problems for gun owners to use them unwisely.
For instance: I know personally a lady rancher that has over 14 rifles and other guns. Her husband was killed years ago by being thrown from a horse. He was an avid gun collector. The guns are locked in a safe. Most of them are on that list you gave. When he collected them, they were legal, and most unregistured. He even said he had bought them as an investment. She is unwilling at this time to sell any of them.
I too have a couple of guns that are probably illegal. Bought by companion many many years ago. He use to collect. I did sell a few, tho. Unusual guns. Sold legally, by the way. Private sale. I accidently found another rifle out in the garage that I didn't know was there. I don't know beans about it. It's just out there. Didn't seem important enough to give it any thought. During his service career, he was a real spy. Yes. For our US Gov't. He's alive cause he never got caught. He does not discuss any of his missions. He won't. Not ever. Never wore a uniform.
I do not mind gun ownership any. But, I do think that one must be responsible to own guns. Use them wisely. Not in anger.

People that use guns to commit a crime need to be a long time in jail. Off the street.
Seemed like a good post. Maybe worth repeating.
