So I was getting my banjo out of the car in the university parking lot, ready to go in for my lesson, when I hear someone shout "You can never have too many banjos around!" I look up and a guy with a moustache that arrived well before he did, comes over to me and asks to see my Deering Goodtime, we introduce ourselves -OMG, - it's Dale Recihert, of Art Stevenson and High Water, famous bluegrass band in Wisconsin and elsewhere -- and he takes me over to his car, pulls out his amp, sits down on the amp and gives me a lesson right there in the parking lot, re-positions my bridge, shows me some fingering, knocks my socks off with his playing, and invites me to the open mic at the Northland Ballroom on Wednesday nights - all within like ten minutes. It's true - banjos are miracle magnets. I was left with my mouth hanging open!
