Hi All,
I have a 70's Epiphone masterclone with the "aluminum" hardware. I like the fact that it's light. I had it disassembled recently, not real sure why. Anyway, i threw it back together the other night because I needed a banjo to pick, and when I first got it back together there was a lot of buzzing, but tonight it settled in just fine. The frets are definitely going to need replaced (flat as a ruler), but I'm surprised by the clarity in tone I'm getting out of this thing. However, I have the head tension pretty tight, as I read that's about the only way to get the multiply rims to ring. Any other setup tips? I took the "cover" off of the Waverly-style tailpiece that came with it. Just installed some spikes as well. Does anyone have tips on how not to ruin the spikes? It seems like I go through at least three to get one in straight. Do you drill your holes first? Seems like it'd have to be a small bit......
