I just started playing banjo a few weeks ago and am learning on my own. The guy that sold me JO teaches, but I just don't have the time to commit to lessons right now. One thing he said to me before I left his shop was "don't learn any bad habits." I've seen a few similar comments on this site about teaching ones-self to play and bad habits. So, I am curious, what sort of bad habits might one pick up by teaching themselves?
I will eventually take some lessons once I have the time and money. When that time comes, I don't want to go back to him with a bunch of bad habits for him to unteach me. Does anyone have any words of caution for a new picker?
