Hello,
I just decided to learn to play the banjo and, as it turns out, one of my clients had one they were getting rid of. $50 later I am the owner of a dusty, reasonably well kept, tunable, Kent Long Neck banjo! I didn't realize it was a long-neck when I bought it...I just wanted a banjo I could learn on...but after reading this thread http://www.banjohangout.org/archive/127815 , I was wondering if I ended up with something worth more than I expected. It's at my local Guitar Center getting cleaned up, tuned up, and new strings...it's missing one of the plastic grommets around the string tensioner and the "K" in the Kent logo has peeled off but other than that and a scratch here or there, it should clean up nicely!
Anything anyone can tell me about this would be great...I'll treat it well either way but it would be good to know if I should get upset if it takes any more dings. :)
Also (probably a question for another forum), I was wondering if there's any difference in learning a long-neck vs. a standard. I started watching some instructional videos on-line...learned a couple of chords...but should I be playing them from the top frets or should I move them down to the lower frets? Are the chords right either way but just higher pitched from the lower?
Thank you!! I am always happy to see vibrant forums for a new hobby!
Darren
