Two WL-250s, a few differences, head and neck

There are two used WL-250 banjos that I am looking at. I can't play either before purchase. One has a wooden neck and a mylar head. The other has a graphite neck and a skin head, and it's a little cheaper. I've never tensioned a head before and don't know how, but I guess I should learn. Am I going to be fidgeting with a skin head all the time? Is it a lot quieter? Do graphite necks feel different? I'm pretty partial to wood, but the graphite neck already has spikes installed so that's a professional fee I wouldn't have to pay.

And thanks-I know I've been needy and y'all have been great. This is a lot of cash for me and I need to be really sure before I lay it down.
