Happy Birthday to Albert Baur, born today in 1845, one of the great 19th-century banjoists. His feet were in the minstrel era, but his head was moving towards the new styles coming through in the 1880s. Many of his works are quirky and energetic, and can be played either stroke (clawhammerish) style or fingerstyle.
I attach a free complete tab version of his great publication, The Banjoist's Budget - some great stuff in there! - and links to some videos I did about three years ago. Unfortunately I rate these videos very poorly. This was a whole new area for me, and I can certainly play these pieces better now. I'm using a SS Stewart fretless, which I no longer have, with nylgut strings.
Enjoy, and let me know if you learn any of his works.
