I bought an old distressed banjo which looked like it was used to paddle up the Ohio river from end to end, but which had a nice old timey sound dispite its hard life.
I decided to take this on as a restoration project , but could use some advice on refinishing the rim and neck. I believe that it has a much pock marked varnish finish. What would be a good way to remove all of the finish on both of these items? Also, once I have these ready for stain, finish, what types of stain and finishing materials might I use? Any advice on the application of same?
Advice appreciated. Thanks in advance.
