I probably posted this when I recorded it two years ago, and I should have re-posted it last week for the hundredth anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic. Somebody posted a comment on my YouTube version today, which reminded me that this was even there. So I'm posting it again as a hundredth anniversary thing.
Here's the description on my Hangout Video page:
My version of a Blind Willie Johnson song, originally recorded in the late 1920's. While maintaining something of the original feeling and spirit of the song, I make no attempt to closely imitate Johnson's version, and have probably altered some of the melody unconsciously, and have deliberatedly altered some of the words, and the order of the verses.
This is a work-in-progress, and may very well evolve further, since I've only been playing it a few days. At some point I may post another version, if one emerges.
The banjo tuning (taking the capo position into account) is eBF#BF# . The techniques are slide clawhammer, with some up-picking and strumming thrown in as seemed to be called for by the rhythm.
