Is it possible to use a home-based computer as a server?
Special software required?
I asked a company that used to provide my web service when I still lived in Missouri...
They talked 'fear'... fear of cost, fear of maintenance, "You'd NEVER want to do that!"...
I call that a "non-answer"...
Every one has a computer, everyone has access to the internet... everyone has storage drives, thumb drives, etc...
Everyone has various levels of security software on their PC...
Why would a home based server be any different or any more or less special?
The answers I've received so far don't even make sense...
They sound like answers you'd get from someone who doesn't understand, themselves, what is involved...
I ask all of this for a reason...
I have a web site, and I sell tabbed arrangements...
I have THOUSANDS of arrangements literally that ALL fit on a simple 2GB thumb drive... with tons of space left over after almost 7 solid years of constant arranging...
It seems like it would be fairly simple to partition a hard drive, make it accessible to the net for downloads, storage, etc...
Based on the knowledge and experience I have acquired thus far in owning and operating a web site that sells tabs for the last, almost 3 years... it doesn't seem like it should be that diffcult...
It really seems like something a high school kid could handle...
If only I were a high school kid again!
Love to hear input!
Thanks in advance,
Tom
