I'm just beginning banjo, I've played bluegrass guitar for many years and fiddled for a few.
But my main instrument is voice, and I could use some guidance about playing banjo while singing. Bass-strum-with-a-few-runs guitar playing seems dead-natural for a singer, I only recently learned how to sing without a guitar in my hands. I fingerpick guitar a little but playing along with my own voice has never been as natural as flatpicking.
I'd appreciate suggestions on how to develop banjo- while-singing skills; what kind of chunk-roll combinations are easiest to start with, instructional materials, easiest songs, who to listen to, personal observations, whatever.
To me, some of the most transcendental musical moments ever were Earl setting up Lester's voice with those perfectly-accented rolls.
