This is kind of a continuation of the thread about picking string sizes for travel banjo. I decided to re-name it because I'm not really talking about string size anymore. So, today I futzed with my notoriously-bad-intonation CC mini open back banjo. I made major improvements by replacing the bridge with a shorter one, slanting the bridge, and loosening the tail-piece a bit. I also lubed the nut slots with chapstick. Now, only the 4th string has much of an intonation problem as I go up the neck. I don't seem to be able to fix it no matter what I do. Also, I am a bit concerned about the slant angle of the bridge. It is a serious slant that frankly, looks ridiculous. Any more advice or info or experience would be welcome. I almost got this thing to where it sounds good- this is exciting because really didn't enjoy playing it, just kept it because it was better than not having a banjo along on a bike tour or backpacking trip. thanks guys, wendy
