..bought a baldwin project banjo a couple days ago....it's built out of a curious collection of parts and has a yellow streak in the grain on the peg head so she's the "bride of frankenstein" model....
(joined banjo hangout yesterday and workin' on gettin' the hang of this......my first post in on another, similar thread, but decided to start a new one for better visibility)
the neck looks like a baldwin model 'c', tailpiece is stamped ODE, tuners look like baldwins, rim is cast/machined no-name--no-serial-number, flange looks like a gibson or gibson knock-off and resonator is an aria.....
my original idea was to track down a baldwin flange and resonator to restore her to original.....i think it'll be more fun and much cheaper to just refinish her as is and remain the "bride of frankenstein"....
this is the first time i've actually seen a banjo with rusty strings....tuned 'em as best i could....this sucker is loud!....comparable to my fender artist (circa 1969)....am sure she'll sound much better with new strings..... ;o)
my fender weighs 11.2 lbs and the bride weighs 12.8 lbs!!
am attaching a few pix....anybody recognize anything?
