It was two years ago yesterday that my wife gave me my first banjo. Didn't start playing it until the day after Christmas. I tried to tune it up on Christmas day, but I busted the fifth string. I didn't know that the banjo shipped with the bridge in pocket of the gig bag and couldn't figure out why I wasn't getting any sound from the thing. A visit to the nearby music store for picks and replacement string and a online visit to frets.com and I was plucking. Really badly.
And then that day I joined the Tony Trischka online lessons. It's a great site but I only stayed for six months because I started taking classes here in Chicago at the Old Town School of Folk Music.
So a lot of classes and private lessons with a really great banjo teacher/player later, lots of practice time and I think I'm doing pretty good at this point.
Tomorrow will be two years at Banjo Hangout. Thanks to all the helpful people here.
So two years down, about 45 to go!
