I bought an old tool chest at a yard sale yesterday that has some interesting contents. I sorted through the box to identify the trash, and I'm curious if a few of the items have any value. I don't want to fool around with eBay.......... any comments ?
A. Metal case stamped "Jack Knife". This is a very cheap item, but is the name "Jack Knife" significant ?
B. Metal knife frames. Dozens of them, some appear old.
C. Machinist's drill & wire gauge chart, "The L. S. Starrett Co."
D. Set of old machinist's drills, set in metal holders that tighten using brass collars.
The previous owner must have had chronic indigestion, since the toolbox had a number of containers for heartburn and other old remedies, with the containers re-purposed to hold drills, small knife parts, etc. The Haarlem Oil is a patent medicine that was invented in Holland in the late 1600's, this box is recent & from an American distributor.
The toolbox also had a number of nice, large pieces of mother-of-pearl and some engraving tools. I'm keeping these.
