I'll be darned if I can work out how to post an image on BHO, here's an old-fashioned link. Do click if interested.
I recently aquired this SS Stewart universal Favorite (#19,999) I got it from a guitar builder friend who had adjusted the action with the threaded "adjustment bar" running from the heel to the dowel stick. I was subsequently told that this "bar" is meant only to be a "brace" and that it will ruin the banjo to leave it engaged. I have now been told the opposite by someone else, that they are a great help and I'm lucky to have one. The "bar" has "July '94" stamped on it, or something to that effect (it's not in front of me at present). Can anyone tell me about this bar?
Also, there are no wedges to snug the neck to the pot and I would like to know how best to install them. I have fine woodworking experience.
How should I do this? The action was great with the bar snugged up, but I have since slacked the metal strings and backed off the bar. I'll be putting nylguts on it and a ren head once I get this sorted it, it's a beauty and it's waiting.
