My wife recently divorced me, and whilst going through all the various bric-a-brac and such one collects in 20 years I came across a mason jar of corn whiskey from my wedding. I bought several jars of this whiskey made by my family in SE Kentucky for the reception. It is the best whiskey I've ever had. I thought, now what will I do with this?
Out of deference to those who won't drink on Sunday, the day of the funeral, and with no intention to offend those who don't drink alcohol at all, I offer this opportunity today to join together with those who appreciate the contributions of Earl Scruggs.
Today at noon, eastern time, I will toast Earl Scruggs from my patio with a shot of the finest, 23 year old Homemade I've ever tasted. I will offer thanks to his family, praise Lester Flatt, and at the stroke of 12pm, I will throw back a shot of warmth and good tidings. I'll do the same again at 6pm eastern time, just in case you can't join me at noon. If grape juice is more your style, then that's just fine. I'll be glad to have the non-drinkers join me.
This tragedy has taught me that I need to make friends with more Bluegrass inclined folks in my area, but I'll be very happy today, with my friends from the BHO joining me for a toast to a good man who gave us all so much.
Tell your friends, call, post, invite. Even if it's just one person, invite someone to join in the toast.
