I've got an old hand me down accordion that I got from my Grandmother's family. Estimated to be from around 1940's or 1950's? It's a HUGE instrument that works pretty well other than one note on the right hand and a few of the buttons on the left hand.
I have started experimenting with recording some old time banjo songs with the accordion and began to wonder if that is something that was common over the last 100 years of old-time music. Was the accordion an instrument that was around and prevalent in clawhammer/fiddle tunes back then?
If anyone has any examples I'd love to know about them so that I could listen. It just seems to work well to me - even if it's just holding octave D's as a drone throughout the whole song. I'm not good enough or fast enough of those tiny keys to play the melody (yet).
Any thoughts, advice, or resources from the BHO geniuses?
