I kinda toggled between the 'Other Banjo-Related Topics' and 'Off-Topic', but settled on the first because it deals with banjo (and other) musicians. Every once in a while you like to poke a hornets' nest just to see what it stirs up; this may or may not be one. And let me preface this by saying that I'm not opposed to facial hair, having in the past had both a mustache and a full beard at various times, including in the Coast Guard.
As an observation, twenty years or so ago, seems most of the rappers had goatees and everyone didn't. Then as everyone else started growing them, most rappers shaved.
Now as I look at pictures of bluegrass bands, it's rare to see one that doesn't have at least one goatee and often several. (I've seen an increase in church, as well; not sure how that fits into this conversation other than the everyone else comment above). Here's my point/opinion/question, and I realize it's a very personal decision. Of all the people I've seen over the years who have grown goatees, in music and out, I can't think of one to whom I could say "Man, you look so much better for doing that". Again, my opinion, as facial hair goes, not an improvement. So, what's with the goatee proliferation in bluegrass bands?
