I just bought a 1922 (seems) Vega No. 2 Special. The neck was replaced in the 40s - curly maple, which is my favorite - but has original hardware and inlays, and the pot and tone ring are supposed to be all original. I'm having a heck-of-a time finding good info on this model. Everything I find from the golden era is about Whyte Ladies and Tubaphones. I wanted that plunky old time sound, with a simple look, and not too difficult to make quiet (8 mos old baby in a small house :-)). I think this will fit the bill perfectly, but I'm nerdy and like to know all I can.
Any info on this model would be much appreciated. I am particularly curious about the tone ring: it appears to me to rolled brass, and was compared by the seller to a Little Wonder. Is the little wonder a rolled brass or are they different? Also curious about what head will sound best - I know the real answer is try them, and decide for myself, but I live in semi-rural Alaska, and supplies and technical assistance are a little lacking out here. Anyone have advice on whether I should get a fiberskin, or stick with the renaissance it currently has? Like I said any other info would be great.
