There was a thread recently in which Mike encouraged folks to submit tunes to his "Clawhammer Challenge" topic on his site. The first one was to submit a song from Vrosby, Stills, Nash or Young's either solo work or groups they were in. I figured why not. My playing may be lame but I'm game
The song I selected is Neil Young's "Old Man". Actually I think there are a lot of songs from CSN or Y that would work well with this style, but this is the first one that came to mind. Realize a couple of things: I am now around the age of the Old Man Neil sang about (so is Neil now, for that matter), my pipes never were very good anyway and time hasn't sweetened them. I'm doing the tune in the original key which is a bit high for my comfort but I didn't want the bother of tuning down. I also sang the refrain an octave lower than Neil does so as to avoid arousing the local coyote population. Finally, the playing is my own homegrown "almost" clawhammer; I'm sure it would sound much better by someone who knew what he/she was doing.
