Using a pick for clawhammer

Hi All, First off let me say this I HATE using a pick for clawhammer, I know It's a matter of getting use to it but I being the beginner I am don't feel I have accuracy hitting the correct string or control of the volume. I have been getting two gel nails put on (I use my middle finger the pointer don't feel right) and have been very satisfied with them  Last week I pinched my middle finger and broke the mail so I tried to remove it, it was stuck quite well at the base and I pulled a big chunk out of my real nail. I started trying to use a pick have a big selection of picks and thimbles and didn't like any of them The ping pong ball was closest to feeling natural but I don't make very nice ones, I was going to suggest one of you enterprising handy folk figure out how to put a thin blade on a formed finger pick. Well I took a Fred Kelly Freedom Pick and my Dremel with a sanding drum and sanded it down to about the thickness of a ping pong ball and it works great. Lessons learned Get used to using both middle and pointer fingers and find a pick you can use, never know when you might need a back up. Larry
