The recent "blind taste test" regarding tone rings has pretty much eliminated any thought I've had of trying some expensive replacement tone ring to get my Y2K RB3 to sound better. Several members thought the out of round rim and sloppy tone ring fit is not the problem I thought it may be. So assuming that those things are okay, I'm left to figure out how well Gibson fit the mahogany neck to the rim and tone ring. That fit I think must be pretty critical.
What is the best way to check how well the two surfaces fit together? At the edges everything looks okay, but what is going on where its hidden?
I was thinking about using carbon paper to make an imprint. Is there a more practical means?
Thanks!
