I traded a set up on a Lyon and Healey banjo for a 6' 1x6 birdseyemaple board (ca. 1910) and have just made a bridge from it.
Beatiful in the face of the cross grain and very fine growth rings.
I wasn't sure what to expect, tonally, but it is full-bodied from highs to lows and seems to pass muster in every way.
I believe this will make a nice run of bridges.
I'm going to make 10 and see if they are consistently good.
